George Washington Gale Ferris and his company, G. W. G. Ferris & Company, were founded and located in Pittsburgh, Pa in 1886. In 1892,  Daniel H. Burnham, director of works of the 1893 exposition, challenged U.S. civil engineers to design a "novel" and "daring" structure that would surpass the Eiffel Tower, engage the public spirit, and symbolize the exposition's emphasis on new technology. George Ferris answered the call  and designing an engineering masterpiece named,
The Great Ferris Wheel.
We need to honor this legacy of engineering by erecting a Ferris Wheel of our own. Help us to honor a Pittsburgher who helped spawn happiness across the world . Just like Ferris we are hopeful and full of  anticipation of good results from this venture.
